because of Missouri's mechanism for a citizens' referendum; in states without such a process, voting for representatives is all the more crucial. An indirect but no less powerful demonstration of the power of the ballot happened in June, when anti-union Supreme Court justices overturned legal precedent by ruling that members of public sector unions could freeload by using union services without having to pay their fair share. The ruling was a huge blow to public sector unions, and all decided by a single vote in a 5-4 SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris encourages passing motorists to vote no on Prop A. The campaign was a success, with voters overwhelmingly overturning Missouri's so-called "right-to-work" law.
