sagaftra.org | Fall 2018 | SAG-AFTRA 19 S AG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon recently visited Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where they joined 30 other labor union leaders and reviewed demonstrations in advanced robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning technology systems that will undoubtedly shape the future economy. The group also discussed workplace innovations, job displacement, the ethics of mass mechanization and collaboration with the academic research and development community. Carteris and Damon also attended a presentation on facial expression recognition using artificial intelligence software used in the development of robotic tutors and explored its potential impacts on the entertainment industry. In addition, the SAG-AFTRA officers met with Rahul Telang, who heads the entertainment innovation center at Carnegie Mellon. Telang co-authored the book Streaming, Sharing, Stealing: Big Data and the Future of Entertainment, which looks at consumer behavior, the history and future of technology, and its impact on the entertainment industry. Payments received after Dec. 10, 2018, may affect your eligibility to vote, nominate and run in elections, and participate in referenda. Timely payment entitles you to participate in union activities and receive member benefits, and also ensures that you will not be charged late payment fees. If you have not yet submitted a payment, we urge you to make payment of your dues right away through one of our convenient payment options, including our online payment system at sagaftra.org.
