sagaftra.org | Fall 2018 | SAG-AFTRA 109 Members with teacher Rachel Bailit, center back row, at Intro to Method Acting MEMBERS EXPLORE EMOTIONS IN METHOD ACTING B ack by popular demand, Rachel Bailit, a SAG-AFTRA member and acting teacher from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, presented another successful training on method acting at the Boston office of SAG-AFTRA on May 31. It was the third time this small-group interactive conservatory was offered, and attendees participated in relaxation and sense memory exercises to access memories and then practiced audition material. In method acting, actors learn to express powerful emotions and are encouraged to leave behind conventional, superficial and clichéd expressions in search of their own unique artistic voices. The method trains actors to use their physical, mental and emotional humanity in the creation of characters, and stresses the ways in which personal experience can fire the actor's imagination. New England Philadelphia MEMBERS MARCH IN ANNUAL LABOR DAY PARADE Ohio-Pittsburgh members marched in the annual Labor Day parade in Pittsburgh, one of the largest in the nation, on a sunny Sept. 3. More than 30 SAG-AFTRA members and their families were joined by local members of Actors' Equity as they marched in solidarity again this year. This year's parade was led by former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and current Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf. Afterwards, members, family and friends enjoyed a picnic at the local office with good food and great conversation. Ohio-Pittsburgh NEGOTIATIONS COMMENCE AT CBS3 Bargaining Committee members Jim Donovan and Natasha Brown get ready for bargaining to start at CBS3 in Philadelphia on Aug. 21. The unit consists of 70 SAG-AFTRA members at CBS3, including anchors, reporters, writers, producers, digital staff and the assignment desk. MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN OREGON LABOR DAY PICNIC S AG-AFTRA Portland Local members chat with fellow unionists at the annual Oregon AFL-CIO Labor Day Picnic held at Oaks Amusement Park Sept. 3. The SAG-AFTRA Portland Local is a proud sponsor of this event, the largest Labor Day gathering in the state, drawing up to 20,000 union members, families and guests for a day of barbecue, games, carnival rides, raffle drawings, music and a chance to hear from local politicians.
