102 SAG-AFTRA | Fall 2018 | sagaftra.org On Location RECOGNIZING DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE REPRESENTATION SAG-AFTRA and the Television Academy hosted the Sixth Annual Dynamic and Diverse Emmy Celebration on Sept. 11 at the Saban Media Center. The event honored diversity in TV, and those behind and in front the camera who make it possible. National Board member and Diversity Committee Chair Jason George spoke on the increase in representation onscreen and the evolution of character types of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and genders. Alongside SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris, Secretary-Treasurer and L.A. Local President Jane Austin and members from the National and L.A. Local boards were in attendance. NEW YORK IS A UNION TOWN Executive Vice President and N.Y. Local President Rebecca Damon and N.Y. Local Board members lead a contingency of nearly 150 members up 5th Avenue on Sept. 8 for the New York City Labor Day Parade. It was a great show of pride and unity as members advocated for solidarity amongst other labor union members to protect their legal rights to how their likeness is used in advertisements, commercials, merchandise, and crafting digital replica performances in video games and like media.
