Atlanta Strategy
Session
In August, LMGI President Mike Fantasia
traveled to Atlanta for our first Strategy
Session with regional members. LMGI
2nd VP Lori Balton participated via Zoom.
The event was hosted by LMGI business
partner SouthScout Location Services.
Owner Sharena Hall welcomed us to their
new office in the King Plow Arts Center,
the largest commercial, performing and
visual center of its kind in Atlanta. Almost
half of our Georgia membership was in
enthusiastic attendance.
"We want the Guild to be a bottom-up
organization," said Fantasia, "where
members' ideas are planned and
implemented within the overall goals
of the LMGI." The event began with a
discussion of how the Guild has morphed
over the years, from its humble origins
as a fiduciary for location scouts'
photography exhibits into an international
professional organization. This was
followed by a spirited discussion of how
it is possible for regional members to
take ownership of their Guild. An event
committee was formed to plan an autumn
event encompassing educational and
social components while spreading the
Guild's message of promoting excellence
on location worldwide.
Atlanta LM David Luse commented,
"It's important to grow our presence,
both in Atlanta and internationally.
The professionalism of the LMGI
gives credence to our craft. We have
a nuanced, difficult job of bringing a
fictional universe into reality—a world of
permits, neighbors, traffic … the Guild
provides a unified forum that not only
allows for discussion among like-minded
professionals, but raises our profile in
the industry around the world." David
is already writing a story for the LMGI
website, which is always hungry for
creative content.
You can easily participate in LMGI
activities by joining a committee—even
from a distance. Most meet remotely via
email, Skype and conference calls. The
Membership Committee is a great way
to meet members from around the world
while vetting applicants. The Regional
and International Committee works
with international film commissions,
municipalities and production service
companies to provide educational,
cultural and travel opportunities for
members. You can also get involved
in organizing events in your region
by discussing topics that are relevant
to your area with fellow location
professionals and bringing your ideas to
the Board.
We look forward to similar sessions
in London, Toronto, New York and
Vancouver. Getting to know our amazing
members around the world is one of the
best perks of belonging to the tribe.
