The Who's Who publications are an opportunity to afford a measure of recognition to the African-American men and women who have made their mark in their specific occupations, professions or in service to others in their community, whose positions or accomplishments in their chosen fields are significant and those whose contributions to community affairs whether city-wide or on the neighborhood level have improved the quality of life for countless individuals. Who's Who in Black Dallas gives recognition to those in the Dallas metro area who dedicate their lives to investing in the community and making a better world for all. In her role at the Chamber, Evans is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the City of Dallas as a major meeting and leisure destination for minority conventions and tourists, with a focus on increasing the economic and business opportunities created by conventions for chamber members and the local community. She has also planned and implemented several of the chamber's annual events in the areas of convention and tourism, including annual association luncheons, hospitality roundtables, meeting industry seminars, FAM Tours and networking receptions, as well as worked on the development of the annual African-American Visitors Guide for Dallas. Evans has served on boards and committees of various national and state organizations within the meetings industry including National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, American Society of Association Executives, Religious Conference Management Association and two (2) terms on the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) International Board of Directors. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at Richland College in Dallas instructing classes in Meeting Management and Meeting Industry Software and helped spearhead a Hospitality curriculum at Paul Quinn College, Dallas' only historically black college. Evans attended Prairie View A&M University and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ROY PATEL NAMED CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE CHICAGO SOUTHLAND CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU Roy Patel, 51, general manager of the Best Western Midway Airport of Burbank, was recently named chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau. Patel will serve a two-year term as chairperson for the 30-member Board that oversees the Chicago Southland CVB. He has been a member of the Board since 2000, and in the past has served as vice-chairperson and treasurer. Patel has been involved in the hospitality industry in the Chicago Southland for the last 16 years and owns and manages several hotel proprieties in the area. "Roy Patel will be a strong leader for the CVB's Board of Directors," said Jim Garrett, CDME, president/CEO of the Chicago Southland CVB. "Roy has tremendous experience in the hospitality industry, and he will continue to lead us to draw more visitors to the first-rate attractions and hotels in the Chicago Southland. We look forward to working closely with Roy as our Board Chairperson over the next two years."
