MEMBERS GET PHYSICAL A pproximately 1,200 SAG-AFTRA members filled the lobby level of SAG-AFTRA Plaza for the free annual SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Health Fair on May 9. Attendees were greeted by 67 vendors and were able to take advantage of an abundance of free services, including vocal health screenings, dental screenings, eye exams, BMI testing, massage therapy, HIV/AIDS testing, podiatrist appointments, hearing tests, mammograms and much more. The Cedar-Sinai Bloodmobile held a blood drive during the fair that collected 42 pints of blood — the most the mobile unit has yielded from one event so far this year. In addition, the West Coast Ultrasound Institute detected two members that were found to be in need of further screenings after finding coronary artery blockages that otherwise would not have been detected. Do not miss your opportunity to participate in this great union benefit next year! DAYTIME DRAMA TAKES A BOW S AG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and Secretary- Treasurer and L.A. Los Angeles VETS SEAL THE DEAL T he SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Military Personnel and Families Support Committee, which is chaired by Kevin Dobson, convened a panel on May 17 at SAG-AFTRA Plaza that focused on how military veterans can utilize their experience to excel within the industry. Panelists included union members who are veterans and production team members from the CBS drama SEAL Team. Panelists reminded members that opportunities arise from auditions beyond the part they may be reading for. Veterans were also encouraged to use their personal experiences and unique abilities when pursuing work, and that the demand is strong for performers with a military background.
