Some studio owners note that by offering a range of services, they are able to better price a complete package. Oth- ers describe the one-stop shop model as somewhat in- tangible: it’s best demonstrated by experiencing it, rather than explaining it. With clients looking to save money more so than ever, a full-service facility can provide both value and efficiencies. Editorial, graphics, audio, finishing... this month, we look at a hand-full of studios that say they can do it all. PRECISION PRODUCTIONS + POST Joseph Arnao is the president of LA’s Precision Pro- ductions + Post (www.precisionpost.com), a 6,000- square-foot facility that’s currently home to nine edit bays.The company has been in business for 20 years and Arnao has been there for almost all of it. Precision started as a two-man shop that was one of One-stop shops offer both value and workflow efficiencies. By Marc Loftus the first to purchase an Avid NLE. One machine grew to 25, and for a while, Precision was one of the preeminent Avid rental facilities in LA. But Arnao wanted to focus on creative service and brought a number of machines in- house for editorial. Seven years ago, Precision built out its facility here, with the goal of offering producers everything under one roof. “In LA, everything is 20 minutes in a car, at least,” he explains. “I realized that in order to handle the capacity for my clients, I really needed to create a producer’s tool — production, post, mixing, finishing — everything under one roof.” The studio is designed for flexibility and can work with any of the new digital formats, including those from the Red and Genesis cameras. There are six offline rooms running a combination of Avid and Apple Final Cut Pro.Two rooms are dedicated for online work, with an Avid Symphony Nitris DS and Final Cut Pro HD.A 5.1 mix stage handles audio services, including voiceover work and ISDN links.
