8 { THE SOMM JOURNAL } APRIL/MAY 2018 SINCE I REVIVED the old Sommelier Journal more than three years ago, we have made a commitment to inform, entertain, and, above all, educate members of the industry to the best of our ability. Now, as The SOMM Journal, our wide-ranging coverage reaches a U.S. and Canadian audience as we explore the international wine community in our bi-monthly publication. And starting with this issue, we'll take on another burgeoning facet of the trade: high-end and trendsetting spirits, along with the skilled bartenders and mixologists innovating within their craft. If you look closely, our editors speak to the wines they admire. Ultimately, though, it's the people be - hind the wines (and now spirits)—the hard-working somms, restaurateurs, distributors, importers, and retailers—who really make this world go 'round. In a nod to these vital members of our industry, we'll turn our Letter from the Publisher/Editor page into a "Who Do You Admire" column starting with our June/July issue. This veritable vox populi, or "voice of the people," will give our readers an opportunity to see their bosses, advisers, inspirers, and profes - sional pals (yes, this business is about relationships) celebrated on this page. Send us a brief paragraph—about 150–200 words tops—on who has most influenced you along with a high-resolution photo, and we'll consider it for publication. After all, we all represent the industry, and we want to help elevate your voices. And hey, maybe you can get someone to write about you, too. To submit to "Who Do You Admire," email Managing Editor Jessie Birschbach at jabs@sommjournal.com. { vox populi } Who Do You Admire?
