15 Legislative Action 2018 Legislative Outcomes These charts demonstrate the success of the WEA lobby team in the 2018 legislative session. As you can see, 25 of the 70 bills we directly followed went the way we hoped! And while it may look as though we weren't as successful with the bills we supported that ultimately failed, it is important to point out that the majority of those were bills to try to find long-term funding streams for education, but the Senate as a whole was just dead set against any of those—they were more interested in mandating additional cuts, not new revenue streams. Considering this mindset, WEA had great success in minimizing the intended cuts. Please remember, too, that this was a budget session, the so-called "short session," where it takes a 2/3s majority vote to bring non-budget bills to the floor for consideration; many bills died because they were not budget-related and did not receive the requisite vote for consideration.
