The new Montreal location will be another hub for Reel FX Animation Studios, its feature film division, and will also serve as an outpost for the studio's commercial and VR/AR divi- sions. Reel FX's global headquarters will remain in Dallas' vibrant Deep Ellum artist community. "We're aggressively ramping pro- duction in Montreal for a short list of theatrical budget animated film proj- ects and more things to come," says Reel FX CEO Steve O'Brien. The expansion will position Reel FX Animation Studios to partner on the development and production of more top tier animation titles going forward. The Montreal studio will be located near the city's downtown district in the historical building Le Nordelec, which has recently been renovated into an urban loft development with commercial, retail and residential units by Allied REIT. The phase one studio build-out will house up to 220 artists, with further expansion plans on the horizon. "Montreal has seen major growth in feature animation production in the last several years and we are excited to be a part of such a thriving creative community," notes Reel FX senior V of animation David Parrish. "With the lineup of inspiring projects we have in the chute, we look forward to working closely with so many talented Montreal artists." Reel FX Animation Studios also recently moved into a new Hollywood location, placing them in closer prox- imity to the heart of the filmmaking industry and studio locales. In related news, Reel FX's com- mercial division in Hollywood has teamed up with Shilo founder/execu- tive creative director Jose Sebastian Gomez to launch ATK PLN, a new strategic creative group. Gomez will lead the creative vision for the studio, joined by former Digital Domain HOP, Jim Riche, who will serve as executive producer, with overall strategy led by managing director David Bates. The trio will draw from their ex- pertise across VFX, design, produc- tion, interactive media, branding and marketing to deliver comprehensive creative content solutions for clients. The team has already created dynam- ic work for clients that include AT&T, Fox Racing and MADD. ATK PLN will work across live design, animation, live action and all combinations of these disciplines to offer clients visual storytelling care- fully tailored to their specific business needs. The strategic creative group will work between its new Hollywood studio, Montreal and Dallas locations. ATK PLN will also partner with sister companies Flight School for their in-depth expertise at the intersection of technology and entertainment, and Reel FX Animation to tap its enter- tainment talent and experience for a wide range of projects.
