102  /  the tasting panel  /  march 2018 A mong the slew of parties held during the holidays, those with bartend- ers as their main audience seem to be cut from a slightly different, more festive cloth. Last November in San Francisco, a group of Bay Area spirits slingers celebrated the season—and some rare downtime during one of the busiest parts of the year—by sampling the newest expression from Jim Beam. Intended as a perfect gift for the discerning bourbon lover, the seasonal, limited-release Jim Beam Distiller's Cut is an unfiltered, 100- proof Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey aged five to six years and hand-selected by seventh-generation Beam Family Master Distiller Fred Noe. Eager to sample the exclusive spirit, the bartenders assembled at Amblard Leather Atelier in San Francisco's Presidio neighborhood, where French transplant and leather artisan Bea Amblard led the group in handcrafting their own personalized luggage tags.
