AEA Quality Teaching and Learning Director Lisa Guzmán provided a course on taking ad- vantage of grant funding available through the AEA and National Education Association (NEA) called "Grant Money for Your Classroom and Students." AEA member and Priority Learning Network instructor Robin Crow presented a course on lesson planning, which explored essential lesson plan components, formats, differenti- ated instructional techniques, and strategies to engage all students. Arizona State Board of Education (SBE) Executive Director Vince Yanez gave a pre- sentation and answered questions on the new teacher evaluations framework and Common Core Standards. This session went over the a separate course taught by AEA member and Priority Learning Network instructor Rae Ann Rumery on teacher evaluation strategies. This session empowered educators to showcase evidence of effective professional practice by understanding the purpose of evaluation, knowledge of the framework, and defining evidence of standards in practice. These sessions are free to members and are another benefit of belonging to your profes- sional association. A session about the National Board Certification process taught by the Arizona K-12 Center will be offered in the spring. In addition, sessions are being planned for Tucson and more topics, such as bullying, will be covered. 2 requirements and implementation of the new evaluation and standards and gave member a unique perspective from the SBE's perspective. AEA followed up on this presentation with AEA's SEI Classes Starting in December The next set of AEA's SEI classes is coming up. These classes provide a professional development opportunity to complete the mandatory 45-hour Structured English Immersion (SEI) requirement at a minimal cost. This methods class, in addition to the provisional, fulfills full SEI endorsement required by the state. Dates December 15, January 5, 12, 26, and February 9. All Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All five sessions must be completed to receive the required seat hours. There will be a lunch break, but lunch is not provided.
