In Memoriam Bill Scribner We have received word that William (Bill) Scribner has passed away at his home suddenly of possible heart attack or stroke. Bill was very active in AEA-NEA for many years and has been retired for some time at his Casa Grande home. He was a teacher at Casa Grande High School and served in various local offices including President of the Casa Grande Unified High School association. He served on the Arizona Education Association Board of Directors and attended many delegate assem- blies and NEA conventions as a delegate. He was active with the establishment of the Eastern Arizona UniServ Region at its inception and the regional office which existed in Miami, Arizona. Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and 4 children. AEA extends its deepest sympathies to Bill's family. He will be much missed. Thank you to Tom Shaffer for sharing this news. Greg Goga AEA lost another member if its family recent- ly. Greg Goga passed away after battling very poor health the last several years. Greg worked as UniServ Director for AEA during the 1990's in the East Valley and Southern regions. He was an active AEASO member too. Those of us who knew Greg will remember him as a fighter for those who are left out or mistreated. Greg grew up in a mining family in Hayden/Winkleman where his strong union values were deeply engrained in him as he lived and worked through some very rough union – management battles. Before coming to AEA, Greg was a miner, an AFSCME Organizer, and a campaign manager. After leaving AEA, Greg was employed by the Texas State Education Association as a UniServ Director. Greg is the former husband of Lynn (Montana) Munier, who also worked at AEA as a UniServ Director during the 1990's. Greg has two adult children from his first marriage. He has a third child, Zack, who recently graduated from Camelback High School and now attends the University of Arizona. AEA is saddened to hear of this loss and extends heartfelt condolences to Greg's fam- ily. Thank you to Doug Kilgore for sharing this news. Grants Available for High School Athletics California Casualty, provider of the AEA Auto and Home Insurance Program, has begun its third year of sponsoring the California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant program that supports public high school athletics. California Casualty established the athletics grant program because education budget cuts have drastically reduced support for school athletics, in some cases forcing school sports to shut down altogether. In the first two years of the grant program, $100,000 in grants was awarded to 69 schools in 26 states. During the 2013 grant period, a total of $75,000 will be distributed to public schools across the nation in grant amounts ranging between $1,000 and $3,000. Grant applications are being accepted until January 15, 2013. California Casualty will notify selected schools and present them with checks by May 15, 2013.
