FLYING HIGH IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA This craft brewery is based in a former airplane hangar at the Redlands Municipal Airport. Four years into the operation, owner Ben Cook has a dedi- cated following in Southern California's Inland Empire and beyond. Hangar 24 Alt- Bier Ale Northern Germany's Altbier tradition translated—beauti- fully—to a West Coast craft ale the transparent ruddy color of ancient amber. Sweet caramel candy tones play on the forefront but are sustained and moderated by bitter hops, with a nice whiff of alcohol as the stuff disappears down the gullet. The bitter finish just begs for another sip. Kudos. Hangar 24 Chocolate Porter As black as a midnight flight, this heady (8.0% abv) porter is seriously satisfy- ing on many levels: intensity of attack, palate-coating mouthfeel, very perfumed flavors with a good dose of ethanol. The addition of vanilla may be the not-so-secret ingredient that takes this one over the top. Very delicious. Campaign financed with aid from the European Union PURE EXPRESSION Few wine regions can claim pure expression — Alsace is an exception. Alsace is a complete mosaic of terroirs, each yielding their own expression of noble grapes such as Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. Every swirl of the glass releases aromatic layers of fl oral or mineral character, and every sip reveals fresh and vibrant fruit. That's the pure expression of Alsace. FRANCE Paris
