Fall 2017 The Costume Designer 21 Photoshop CC Subscription•This is a no-brainer. I was against paying monthly for Photoshop at first, but with regular updates, and a slew of new features that make our job much easier, it is the program that I live in most of the day. Daz 3D•I use this program to pose and light figures. Works well when you have multiple characters to illustrate with limited time. Being able to change the proportions of the models to fit your actors is a plus. Zbrush•The future, literally. It allows us to digitally sculpt and create with the most precision offered to date. We can literally sculpt costumes directly onto an actor's scanned body. It really is an industrial design tool at your fingertips. Starter Fitted LA Cap•You will hardly ever catch me without my hat on. J. Maurice Graphic Tees•A friend of mine from college. I have several shirts of his designs. The most popular is a kinetic rendering of Martin Luther King Jr. sporting a floating crown above his head and one simple word, DREAM. You can find Jarvis' work along with many other talented artists at Society6.com iPad Pro 3, iPencil, Procreate•This has been a game changer. I can literally work anywhere. The ipencil is the best, most natural digital sketch- ing tool I have used to date. H&M Bugs Bunny Sweater•I enjoy mixing things up. This sweater usu- ally brightens up the day and lightens the mood. Kingsman Adidas Originals Superstar Pro•Designed by Arianne Phillips exclusively for Mr. Porter. Need I say more? I'm in! mrporter.com Cocoa Butter Lotion•People often tell me I smell nice. This is my secret weapon. Marvel, Art of Book Series•The work from all the talented concept artists in these books is not only inspiring, but teaches me something new every time I look at it. Illo Sketchbook•Every artist needs a great sketchbook, Illo is mine. 8x8 and heavy cardstock paper. It is perfect and I carry it with me everywhere to jot down ideas for personal pieces. illosketchbook.com Fisticup Mug•This mug was a gift from CD Trish Summerville. I bring it to every show. It's a kick-ass way to start the morning! inkedshop.com Anatomy tools Male figure•Picked up one of these to put on my desk. Great resource for an artist to remind you about anatomy. anatomytools .com Random Item from my Daughter•Most don't know this, but I keep one random item from my daughter with me at all times. Could be a Barbie doll shoe, a stray sock, or glitter on my face from her shirt, but I always have something from her with me. I have watched the landscape of costume illustration change drastically over the last 10 years. With the rising wave of technological advances being industry standard, our art form has taken on new meaning. In order to handle the broader scope, the time crunch, and the relentless workday here are a few items that I cannot live without. –Phillip Boutté Jr. Phil's Picks Personal Curation for the Illustratively Inclined
