PATRONS | Winter 2017 48 EVERY DONATION COUNTS Troop Earns Brownie Points for Donation Second grade Brownie troop 5115 from St. Lawrence Martyr School in Redondo Beach recently paid a visit to Torrance Memorial's Burn Center to help make life easier for patients. e troop raised $90 to purchase gift cards for families who need assistance with buying medications and wound care supplies. ey also donated more than 20 toys for young patients. e Brownies earned their first aid and philanthropist badges for their efforts. While touring the unit, the troop received a lesson on burn prevention while cooking, with an emphasis on avoiding hot liquid scald burns. Chevron employees present checks to members of the Burn Intensive Care Unit: third from le : James Park, RN, Tuscan Butardo, RN, (fourth from le ) Susan Santos, RN, and Ma hew Reiss, MD, BICU (sixth from le ). Members of troop 5115 pay a visit to Torrance Memorial's Burn Center to present gi cards and toys for pa ents. Chevron Employees Donate to Burn Center Employees from the Chevron Refinery in El Segundo presented two checks to Torrance Memorial Medical Center's Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU). A $15,000 check stemmed from an employee fundraiser. e refinery's fire department collected an additional $9,000 through various other fundraising activities. Torrance Memorial has a long-standing partnership with the refinery and has worked closely with its workers to develop burn prevention lectures. rough the years, the BICU has also treated fire department employees for burn injuries. e donations will go toward improving burn patient care in the BICU.
