A former Board member of the LMGI, he's still active with the Guild, keeping the LMGI Facebook page current with stories about the perils and pleasures of working on location when not too busy participating in Fam Tours. Nancy Mills Nancy Mills is a freelance entertainment writer whose work has appeared in dozens of magazines and newspapers around the world, including USA Today, USA Weekend magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, People, Cosmopolitan, Elle, The Costco Connection, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News, The Guardian, International Herald Tribune and The New York Times Syndicate. Over the years, she has visited hundreds of TV and film locations in such far-flung spots as China, India, Italy, France, Germany, England, Mexico, Australia and Fiji. She is a graduate of Cornell University. Lori Balton Recipient of the 2017 LMGI Trailblazer Award, Balton is the first location professional accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Perpetually curious, she is grateful that her career lets her explore the world—its culture, landscapes and architecture. Balton has worked with some of the best directors, designers and location managers in the business. Co-editor of the LMGI Compass, active LMGI Awards and International committees member, founding member and past president of the LMGI, she is delighted to see the Guild thrive. When not chasing incentives, she lives in Venice, California, with her husband and three rescue dogs. Michael Burmeister Michael Burmeister has never had a "real" job once he moved to Los Angeles from his hometown of Buffalo, NY. His first job was at Disneyland. The next job was being a tour guide at Universal Studios. That led to a job as page at NBC, which eventually led to becoming a stage manager for Johnny Carson's bandleader, Doc Severinsen. Starting as a PA for Steven Spielberg on ET, Michael fell in love with moviemaking. Working his way up over time, he was able to work on such projects as Back to the Future Part II & III, Edward Scissorhands, Casino, National Treasure, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and recently, American Made. Over the years, location work has offered opportunities that took him all over the United States and eventually, that lead to work abroad. Fortunately, the skills needed to be a location manager also encapsulate some of his interests; photography, travel, meeting new people and problem solving. In his spare time, Michael enjoys some of these same activities along with cycling and hiking. Shannon Mullen Shannon Mullen is an itinerant film producer, screenwriter and retired public radio reporter. Her production company, Broad Reach, is based on the East Coast. John Rakich Toronto, Canada-based location manager John Rakich was the first location professional from that city to join the LMGI in 2015. His many credits include the feature films Resident Evil 4, Pixels, and the TV series Hemlock Grove, American Gods and Shadowhunters. When not working, John enjoys exploring Canada's U.S. neighbor via road trips. Architecture and great food always factor into planning his destinations.
