MUST-SEE PLACE: The St. Lawrence Market is a public market dating back to 1803. Several buildings have housed the Market, the most recent built in 1968 which houses more than 120 specialty vendors, known for the variety and freshness of their fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, grains, ba- ked goods and dairy products, as well as for the uniqueness of the non-food items for sale. The Market was named the world's best food market by National Geographic and is also home to Toron- to's infamous peameal bacon sandwich, our signature dish. FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Toronto is blessed with every cuisine you could think of. It reminds me very much of New York City in that you can go to any part of town and find incredible places. A few local favorites of mine are Alo (French cuisine), the award-winning George and the steakhouse Jacob & Co., which has great food and a piano bar. Lee is a very popular upscale Asian fusion restaurant. PLACE TO SEE BY NIGHT: The Distillery District was named for the Gooderham & Worts Distillery which was founded in 1832 and by the late 1860s, was the largest distillery in the world. It eventually closed in 1990. This district contains the largest and best-preserved collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America. In 2003, the distillery was reopened with shops, restaurants, cafés and a microbrewery. It is now a National Historic Site and is a popular filming location. BEST DAY TRIP: Niagara Falls. It's a little over an hour away by car and is truly a sight to see if you haven't been there. As a bonus, the drive through the vineyards Niagara Region and picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake make for a great journey. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD: I'm partial to the area known as Queen Street West and its ever-changing look that maintains its cool, quirky, roots. It's this bohemian pocket of a neighborhood trying to keep its history around a city still growing and always evolving. BEST BAR/CLUB: I always enjoy a well-made cocktail, so my current favorite choice is a place downtown called Weslodge. Aside from making one of the best Old Fashioneds I've had anywhere, they have a great menu full of sharing plates and fantastic food. The interior design is an intriguing mix of old-time saloon with period prohibition house. If something more classic runs your tastes, then the Library Bar in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel makes an incredible classic martini. BEST PLACE TO HEAR MUSIC: Massey Hall is Canada's oldest and most venerated concert hall. Opened in 1894, it's been the site of many historic events and performances. It has been repeatedly voted "Canada's Best Live Music Venue" and is a National Historic Site. Some of the legendary acts that have graced the stage include George Gershwin, Glenn Gould, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Oscar Peterson, Rush, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Band, Gordon Lightfoot, Luciano Pavarotti, Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Cream, Neil Young, The Kinks, Billy Joel and Lenny Kravitz. BEST VANTAGE POINT/SCENIC VIEW: There's two really. One of the best views of the city is from the Toronto Islands looking back at the city where you can see the whole waterfront. But truthfully, the best view is from the CN Tower. It's hard to beat the view from 1,465 feet— John's Private Tour The Distillery District
