70  /  the tasting panel  /  november 2017 WINES Pieropan 2016 Soave Classico DOC, Veneto, Italy ($20) The blend of 85% Garganega and 15% Trebbiano di Soave from the family's estate in the Soave Classico zone—and a low ABV of 12%—showcases Nino Pieropan's 50th vintage and perhaps one of the label's finest. The aromatics are exceptional, with flint-inspired apricot and lemon curd. The palate is crisp and clean, further enhancing stone fruit and minerality. 90 E. & J. GALLO WINERY Doña Paula 2017 Rosé of Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina ($13) Red raspberries and summer watermelon are the initial scents from this 100% Malbec grown in the El Alto Estate of Mendoza's Luján subregion. With a low ABV of 12.3%, it's an easy-drinking rosé, offering a core of stoniness surrounded by melon notes and rhubarb. The high acidity keeps it fresh. 91 TRINCHERO FAMILY ESTATES Foley Estates 2015 JA Ranch Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills, California ($55) From its earthy perfume, secondary aromas of spiced cherry pie, mocha-cedar, and dusted cocoa come into play. The flavors exude deep, dark black cherry and the earthy stream continues through to the finish. Black tea tannins take a light grip and are seasoned with baking spice. 93 FOLEY FAMILY WINES Z. Alexander Brown 2015 Uncaged Pinot Noir, Monterey/Napa/Sonoma Counties ($20) Aromas of black cherry, seasoned with sage and basil, are savory on the nose. Luscious plum flavors are bold with whispers of black pepper and sweet tobacco. An elegance beams in mid-palate with a wash of jasmine and boysenberry mocha. Ripe and refined. 93 DELICATO FAMILY VINEYARDS In each issue, The Tasting Panel's Publisher and Editorial Director Meridith May selects her favorite wines and spirits of the month. Check here for the latest arrivals in our offices, the hottest new brands on the market, and an occasional revisited classic. Publisher's Worthy of a smooch. French-style double bizou. Wildly infatuated. Seriously smitten. Head over heels in love. PHOTO: DAVID GADD PICKS
