18 ADVOCATE | FALL 2017 Around AEA T he beginning of August is Back to School season in Arizona. For local association leaders and members across the state, it also means preparing to welcome new school employees and helping them settle into the school district. Many local associations host luncheons or professional development during new employee orientations to introduce those new to the district to their local association leaders, site representatives, and the work of the Association. These events allow new employees, many who are not familiar with unions or bargained agreements, to ask questions and learn about their rights under the contract negotiated between the local association and district administration. If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved in your local association, visit the Arizona Education Association's website at arizonaea.org.
