74  /  the tasting panel  /  september 2017 WINES Leese-Fitch 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, California ($12) With a decidedly fresh tropical nose of candied pineapple, the palate has the added attraction of lime zest and white flowers to notes of guava and grapefruit. French Colombard is added in (12%) for accents of lanolin and white tea. This one sure overdelivers. 91 3 BADGE BEVERAGE Doña Paula 2016 Los Cardos Malbec, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina ($12.99) The aromas of grilled meat, blue floral tones with a Latin zing and an abundance of blue and black berries are pleasurable from this 13.5% ABV Malbec—a welcome way to show off the fruit and bouquet. On the palate, an earthiness showcases sun and soil. Mocha and violets glide on the velvet mouthfeel to the memorable finish. 92 TRINCHERO FAMILY ESTATES TerraMater 2015 Magna Limited Reserve Carménère, DO Valle de Curicó, Chile ($16.99) Lean-bodied, with a slate-cherry nose and fine acidity. Iron and ripe red fruit thread through a mocha latte middle. Layers of fudge and cinnamon toast, with white pepper on the finish. Turns the juice on when paired with lamb. 92 Napa Cellars 2015 Chardonnay, Napa Valley ($20) A big, broad nose offers up honey butter and tropical fruit with a squeeze of lemon and spiced toffee-oak. The weight on the pal- ate carries the iconic characters of this variety, from crème brûlée to baked apple, with the right balance of acidity. 90 TRINCHERO FAMILY ESTATES In each issue, The Tasting Panel's Publisher and Editorial Director, Meridith May, selects her favorite wines and spirits of the month. Check here for the latest arrivals in our offices, the hottest new brands on the market and an occasional revisited classic. Publisher's Worthy of a smooch. French-style double bizou. Wildly infatuated. Seriously smitten. Head over heels in love. PHOTO: DAVID GADD PICKS
