60  /  the tasting panel  /  september 2017 COVER STORY "Elegant" and "accessible" are the perfect words to describe the bottle's packaging, and they're exactly what I needed for my Millennial mis- sion—chic, attractive and feminine without being gimmicky. They're upscale and understated, but incredibly eye-catching with royal purple labels sporting California poppies. Definitely Instagram-worthy. I'm not the only one who feels this way. After posting a pic with the necessary Callie Collection hashtag, I scroll through the brand's social media and discover several photos of Millennial idol Hilary Duff. She's a #WomanCrushWednesday every day of the week, and any wine the former Lizzie McGuire actress loves is a wine I want to drink. Duff is a wine aficionado and also the Brand Ambassador for Callie Collection. "Hilary Duff is not only the quintessential California girl, but she also reflects our values: She's warm, spirited and puts friendship, family and laughter first," explains Seethoff. "She is a frequent entertainer and loves to have her girlfriends over to catch up over a few glasses of wine. She really embod- ies what Callie Collection stands for and has been a perfect partner." From that, I determine one transcendent fact: Hilary Duff is actually as cool as I imagine. Callie uses the innovative new Helix closure, which is basically a reseal- able cork that you can hand-twist right out of the bottle. As Seethoff says, "It's the elegance of a traditional cork with the ease and functionality of a screwcap—no corkscrew needed and easy to take on-the-go." I'm deeply grateful for the innovation, as it ensures I won't stab myself in the hand after one too many glasses. Sipping the wines, my colleagues guide me through understanding the layers of flavor in each: from the subtle jasmine and lychee in the Pinot Grigio to the plum and spice cake notes of The Tasting Panel's Mara Marski (left) gathered some of her coworkers for a "girls' night in" with Callie Collection (from left): Executive Wine Editor Allyson Gorsuch, Senior Wine Editor Jessie Birschbach and Publisher/Editorial Director Meridith May. "Callie Collection wines are all about enhancing moments among friends, with elegant, accessible wines that pay tribute to the beautiful California Central Coast where our wines are crafted" PHOTO: JOSHUA FREEDMAN
