Torrance Memorial Medical Center is positioned to do just that. The commitment to the care we provide was highlighted recently when the medical center earned a four-star rating regarding patient feedback about their Torrance Memorial experience. Torrance Memorial was one of four hospitals in LA County to achieve this accolade. In May, Torrance Memorial and Cedars-Sinai announced a proposal to affiliate and form a new alliance that promises to strengthen both organizations' ability to serve their communities and to enhance access, coordination, and quality of care for the public. Torrance Memorial has already been working with Cedars-Sinai on a highly successful telestroke program, and the proposed affiliation will provide a platform for future collaborations, including possible research and academic expansion. See page 28 for the complete story. Medical research helps expand the kinds of treatment we can make available to the community. The Hunt Cancer Institute is in the midst of very exciting research regarding the use of blood tests— oen called "liquid biopsies"—that can diagnose without surgery and will help oncologists target treatments. In addition, the Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute has conducted dozens of heart-related studies in partnership with institutions such as Harvard University, Duke University and the American Heart Association. Torrance Memorial is a nationally recognized institution providing world-class care with a strong sense of community.
