august 2017  /  the tasting panel  /  1 1 1 Stella Rosa Moscato d'Asti An unexpected explosion of summer fruits and flowers dance together in harmony as they escape out of the glass and into the nose, the same continuing onto the palate but enhanced with the acidity. This is a clean, crisp, fruit-driven wine that should be enjoyed with friends poolside or at any social gathering. —David Milligan Pale straw color; ripe apricot nose, with sweet peach and apricot on the palate; a crisp, fresh wine. —Kirk Foldenauer Soft hints of lemon; light, airy and soft with a pale yellow color; soft spritz with a finish that delivers. —Smiley Quick So floral and fragrant—the nose just leaps out of the glass—peach blos- soms, plumeria, apricots, white peaches and lemon-tinged, which bolsters the acidic backbone, keeping the wine from being overly sweet. This is a bright, fresh and refreshing wine. —Allyson Gorsuch Nice, light straw color; big nose and the wine has obvious effervescence; great for drinking by itself anytime. —Gerald Gates Stella Rosa Rosso The beautiful red ruby color can transport you into another dimension if you let it. The fresh berry fruit is refreshing on the palate with just the right amount of sweetness. —David Milligan Medium-red color; subtle red-fruit nose with tons of ripe cherries and an herbal undertone. —Kirk Foldenauer Red fruits both on the nose and palate; a soft sweetness with a hint of pine needles; this is a light red wine, almost a rosé. —Smiley Quick Raspberries and strawberries with a milk chocolate undertone; the light red wine is playful and vibrant. —Allyson Gorsuch A sweet, candied nose of berries with a more blush color; smooth and spritzy, this is an easy-drinking style of wine. It's fantastic; it's a wonderful wine to start new wine drinkers with—light alcohol and easy-drinking. —Gerald Gates Stella Rosa Black Evident in this sleeper is the fruit—massive amounts of black-cherry cola demand your attention as you nose this wine and try to wrap your head around it. It's a medium-bodied wine with soft silky tannins and a puckering Jolly Rancher–like sensation, which makes a lasting finish. —David Milligan Medium red-purple color; raspberry, floral nose; ripe raspberry and sweet- ness with potpourri; very enjoyable. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do, but it's well-made, and it hits all the marks. —Kirk Foldenauer Bright nose stands out with hints of blackberry and potpourri; dark color with a pleasing spritz and a clean finish. —Smiley Quick Floral, exotic nose with blackberries, black cherries, violets and potpourri; I expected the wine to be sweeter and was pleased at the just-sweet-enough nature; this is an easy-drinking, fruity wine to put a smile on your face. — Allyson Gorsuch Deep color with a huge nose; big, over-the-top flavors; smooth fruit transi- tion with the effervescence that excites the senses! —Gerald Gates
