| WEAnews 8 Longtime NCEA Member Honored with Gold Key Award Doreen McGlade of Casper was recently awarded the Wyoming Education Association's prestigious Gold Key Award for her over-30 years of service to Wyoming education. Nominations of Doreen came from Natrona County Education Association (NCEA) teachers, as well as from past-Gold Key recipient and now-Wyoming legislator, Representative Debbie Bovee. "I had the pleasure of working with her when she was a teacher mentor for the district, and was able to observe her ability to aide new teachers to develop into strong educators," Bovee said about McGlade. "She worked tirelessly to help build a collaborative relationship with the school district that continues to this day." Doreen is currently the NCEA President, and hopes to retire at the end of this school year. She has worked within the Association collaboratively to "fight injustice in public education by reaching across the aisle to find and implement solutions," said current NCEA Vice President, Dirk Andrews. Doreen also worked to develop and draft curriculum, served on committees to help develop systems and acceptance around diversity and culture, and has continually fought for the rights of educators around the state. Doreen has demonstrated active participation within the Association for decades, and has been a leading advocate for public education in Wyoming, including her involvement in local and state politics, serving on Candidate Interview Teams and Legislative Contact Teams. Doreen has used her leadership qualities and skills to encourage administrators to allow teachers to attend NEA and WEA events and trainings by discussing the benefits the Association can provide to their schools. Doreen has also organized and presented many professional development opportunities in Natrona County, as well as around Wyoming. The Association runs in Doreen's blood, according to Andrews, and there are no doubts about her absolute commitment to public education. SUMMER 2017
