SPIRITS 93 Santo Mezquila, Mexico ($55) A partnership between Jack Daniels (of Wilson Daniels), rocker Sammy Hagar and pop icon Adam Levine. Smooth, smoky nose; silky and clean with fresh and spicy style. A blend of tequila and mezcal— elegant and earthy at the same time with a nice hint of sweetness. WILSON DANIELS 91 Ron Barceló Imperial Dominican Rum, Dominican Republic ($30) The prestige offering from this venerable house founded in 1929 by a young Spaniard; rich, smoke-laced nose with toasty oak and brown sugar flavors. SHAW-ROSS INTERNATIONAL 93 Copper & Kings Blue Sky Mining 7 Year Old Muscat Brandy, USA ($40/375 ml.) Aged 30 months, copper pot-distilled, non-chill-filtered. Smooth, aromatic and lush with notes of rose petal, peach and vanilla oak; high-proof but very mellow nonetheless. COPPER & KINGS 92 Dark Northern Rye Whiskey, USA ($39) A long, supple rye from two Seattle cocktailians; vanilla, spice and caramel nose; silky texture and toasty flavors. Very nice job. FREMONT MISCHIEF DISTILLERY 93 Grandgousier Tennessee Whiskey, USA ($68) Made with local heirloom grains, Grandgousier ( "big throat," French slang for a gourmand) is a highly likable whiskey with lovely, complex grain notes. Parent company Fugitives Spirits pays homage to the Fugitives, a group of 1920s Nashville poets centered around Vanderbilt University. FUGITIVES SPIRITS 92 Midnight Moon American Whiskey, USA ($20) A blend of whiskies and bourbon, aged in charred oak barrels. Medium amber color ; smooth minerally nose; grassy and floral with rich flavors of spice and toasty oak. PIEDMONT DISTILLERS 92 Gružanska Nit Plum Brandy, Serbia ($39) Pale amber color ; smooth and lush with toasted plum and dry, floral, spicy notes; silky, deep, long and balanced. LAV IMPORTS 93 Porter's Apple Liqueur, USA ($20) Canadian whiskey with natural apple and neutral spirits; rich apple nose; smooth and creamy with sweet, fresh apple fruit. (Maybe it's time for the Apple Martini to make a comback?)
