www.postmagazine.com 11 POST FEBRUARY 2017 BITS & PIECES BOSTON — BorisFX (https://borisfx.com) is offering more than two hours of free tutorials to pros who want to learn how to master the company's Continuum Complete plug-in collection. The Boris Continuum col- lection is designed for use with Avid, Adobe and OFX hosts, and includes more than 250 tools and filters. The online training — dubbed BCC Fundamentals — takes an in-depth look at keying, titling and motion tracking, among other techniques. For example, BCC Fundamentals: Chapter 009 - Advanced Keying & Layering looks at BCC chroma key tools and how to deal with uneven greenscreens and garbage masks. Users can also learn how to com- posite with multiple filters as well as color match to background images. Other chapters include creating "witness protection" effects to hide a subject's face, an introduction to 3D objects, how to create custom titles, using transitions, and lighting & looks. BORISFX OFFERS FREE BCC TUTORIALS "V-Ray is built to handle just about anything. It works well in many production scenarios, so I think it's a good fit for a lot of studios. Of course, the overall quality, speed and usability are key. We work pretty hard to make the integration with the host applica- tion as seamless as possible, and we also spend a lot of time to understand our users and their needs, and to build the right tools for them." What are the different types of applications for which post houses are using V-Ray? "V-Ray is used in all types of produc- tions — film, television, commercials, titles, animation, etc. And it's used by all types of artists — lighters, look dev artists, generalists, matte paint- ers, concept artists, even production designers. We try to make V-Ray do everything that artists need, right out of the box, whether it's render- ing creatures and characters, or environments and effects. Recently, we've been adding tools to help with VR and we're seeing a big uptick in VR content." What further developments do you envision for V-Ray or Chaos Group? "We're always testing new ideas, looking for ways to make V-Ray faster and easier. In the latest ver- sion, we introduced a new Adaptive Lights algorithm that optimizes light calculations and cuts render times in a big way. Also, GPU rendering has come a long way, and I expect to see it adopted into more productions. Of course, we're always experimenting with other ideas and projects, but it's probably too early to talk about." — By Linda Romanello Find out why everybody's talking about Soundly Free Download at GetSoundly.com PLUS - Get Soundly Pro for 30 days FREE with this code: POSTMAGAZINE The Fastest Way to Find and Sync SFX to Picture ⊲ Pro Tools, FCP, Premiere Pro, Media Composer, Reaper, Nuendo, and more ⊲ Drag and Drop From the Soundly Cloud Library and Your Local Library Instantly Chaos Group's V-Ray renderer
