62 The Costume Designer Winter 2017
SCRAPBOOK
A Brief Mention of a Powerhouse Friend
This lady had a career worth mentioning! She may have been small but she was mighty! When Dodie
Shepard made a commitment to something, she went all the way and didn't stop until it was delivered.
Show up, suit up, and then pass it around.
Dodie was a child actor, a studio contract player, a stunt performer, a costumer, a teacher at
Columbia College of Costume Design, and a Costume Designer for film and television. Her career spanned
five decades. Legendary in her generosity and her spirit, she was awarded Gold Card status by IATSE Local
705, and continued to be active in important committee work. There she led the way for members to
enjoy retirement and understand the benefits of union life, a career as a way of life.
For more details of Dodie Shepard's admirable story, visit the Legacy Section of the CDG website and
read her Legacy Tribute by Diana Eden. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 11,
at Emmanuel Church, 438 East Harvard Road in Burbank.
