Winter 2017 The Costume Designer 49 IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - WORK With no prior experience designing in the zombie genre, CD Jo Katsaras was a little trepidatious when asked to design season 3 of Fear of the Walking Dead for AMC … but after watching a few episodes, she realized it was a family drama set in apocalyptic times with zombies as the background. Creators Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman wanted to bring Katsaras onboard to inject that cultural character design she loves to cre- ate. With an immense cast to dress, shopping for the show had its challenges. Their shooting location in Rosarito, Mexico, is remote, and shopping in the USA takes up to three days to get the costumes across the border. Carving another notch on his Atlanta headboard, CD Frank Helmer has just wrapped Daytime Divas for Sony and VH1. Based on Star Jones' book Satan's Sisters, Vanessa Williams and Tichina Arnold head up an ensemble cast of women and amaz- ing guest stars. In a nice change of pace from his last couple shoot 'em up dramas, this project found Helmer putting beauti- ful people in beautiful clothes, almost entirely on stage … with not a diva in the bunch! CD Frank Helmer Daytime Divas Directed by Brad Furman, Labyrinth stars Johnny Depp and For- est Whitaker as a reluctant cop/reporter team reinvestigating the murders of music icons Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace (The Notorious B.I.G.) 20 years after their deaths. CD Denise Wingate is ecstatic to be in town designing the independent fi lm from Good Films and Open Road. Wingate notes it is strange to be doing a "period" fi lm which takes place in 1997, because it doesn't feel like that long ago, but is having great fun research- ing '90s hip-hop fashion.
