4  /  the tasting panel  /  january/february 2017 Ten years ago, in February 2007, Anthony Dias Blue and I signed the paperwork to take over a venerable but limited West Coast trade publication called Patterson's Beverage Journal. We immediately renamed the magazine The Tasting Panel, which debuted in May of that year. Growing to reach our current status as a highly regarded national magazine didn't take long. Within a year, our circulation tripled, reaching the trade in large and small markets alike and being read— "cover to cover," as we've heard many times—by on- and off- premise gatekeepers, industry influencers, distributors, import- ers and restaurateurs. We kept hiring better writers and photog- raphers and tapped into an industry that needed a platform to showcase today's hottest brands and tell the fascinating stories of the Who's Who behind the scenes. In these past ten short years, the magazine has continued to grow in size and importance, and has expanded its scope significantly to sponsor national and international wine and spirits events, organize world-class tastings, become the media sponsor for important trade conventions and act as the voice of intimate gatherings of buyers, suppliers and distributors—all of which gets recorded for history through our pages. Thanks to all of you, our readers, for helping us achieve an enviable place in today's thriving wine and spirits business. We're extremely proud to be such an integral part of it. —Meridith May Publisher and Editorial Director A Decade of Memories LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER CELEBRATING THE TASTING PANEL'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY With superstar Chef Guy Savoy in Las Vegas. some memories: With Santa Barbara's Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat.
