POSTINGS: BROADCAST DESIGN www.postmagazine.com 41 POST JUNE 2016 OISHII CELEBRATES MOMS IN ON-AIR SPOT FOR SPROUT LOS ANGELES — After a successful collaboration on Sprout's 2015 brand refresh, creative solutions company Oishii Creative (www.oishiicreative.com) was commissioned by the 24-hour preschool television network to create a new on-air :30 spot, Mom Is Here, which highlights its annual #MomIsHere campaign in support of moms everywhere. The spot begins with a sleeping mom being abruptly awakened by her young daughter. What follows in the energetic ad are other typical scenar- ios from throughout the day. "Help us say goodbye to mom guilt," says the voiceover, which then encourages viewers to share the message with the moms in their lives to let them know, "They've got this." Working from Sprout's concept and script, Oishii handled the casting, shoot and editorial. From there, the network re-cut the spot with additional footage shot by Oishii to create versions for social media and integrated brand tie-ins. Oishii shot 18 kids and seven adults to capture various family scenes over the course of three days on-location in LA. An additional pho- tographer caught candid moments for Sprout marketing campaigns. Mom Is Here was shot on an Alexa and a hand-held Movi. Post was completed using Adobe's Premiere, Photoshop and After Effects. 2C CREATES PROMOS FOR SPIKE'S INK MASTER MIAMI — To launch the seventh season of its successful reality-competition series, Ink Master, hosted by Dave Navarro, Spike turned to 2C Creative (www.2c.tv) for a new, visually engaging promotional campaign that would drive excitement to the familiar fan-favorite. The goal was to create something that had never been seen before. The concept imagined going into the blood of the artists to see that tattooing and ink were really a part of their physical being. Once inside, ink streams would appear, collide, reveal and erase the competing artists and celebrity judges. Everyone involved wanted a level of organ- ic magic that could only come from capturing these elements in-camera, so 2C opted for a practical shoot in lieu of CG for creating ink elements. They also shot artist portraits as part of a larger promotional shoot. Once the ink was injected into a tank, the team got organic results while manipulating the velocity, colors, cloud intensity and deflections. The post team then linked the talent portraits and ink shoot elements together, a process that took many weeks in post via keying, masking and roto-scoping to get the seamless blend. To enhance the composites, nuances of atmo- sphere — ECU shots of tattoos from the actual artists, special color grading, particle sparks and light flare overlays — were added. Most of the ink was shot practical in 5K with a Red camera. The post team used After Effects for compositing and Keylight for keying, supple- menting the practical ink with some CG details using Cinema 4D and X-Particles. They also used Mocha for tracking and rotoscoping, and Davinci Resolve for color grading. MIXTAPE CLUB DELIVERS HBO'S CONFIRMATION PROMO NEW YORK — Integrated creative studio Mixtape Club (www.mixtapeclub. com) collaborated with HBO to create an insightful animated promo for Confirmation, the film about Anita Hill and her explosive '91 testimony against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, which debuted exclusively on the cable network in April. Geared toward a younger generation who might not be aware of the event, the clip serves as a historical primer for the HBO original film. As the promo outlines, the events depicted in Confirmation mark a pivotal moment in America that forever changed the way we think about sexual harassment, victims' rights and modern-day race relations. Moreover, it's a vital reminder of the impact one person can make by standing up and speaking out. Mixtape Club was heavily involved in the production of the promo, from concept development to animation to music and sound. Led by creative di- rector Dennis Go, Mixtape Club chose to unfold the story with a mixed-media collage animation comprised mostly of elements designed and illustrated from scratch and historical photographs. The post team completed storyboarding (Flash & Premiere), editing and animation (Photoshop & After Effects) on the promo, while the photograph and video elements were captured on a Canon 5D and C300 using a down-shooter rig.
