PLUG-INS NEWS www.postmagazine.com 38 POST JUNE 2016 REVOLVE 360 SIMPLIFIES EDITING OF EQUIRECTANGULAR PANORAMIC VIDEOS & STILLS BOSTON — Sugarfx's Revolve 360 is a low-cost plug-in, available through FXFactory (https://fxfactory.com), that provides tools for editing and an- imating spherical video and still images in the timeline of Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects and Premiere Pro. The editor can now control the fram- ing and viewing of a specific area of the captured 360-degree panorama. They can also animate the virtual camera, controlling all axis. Users can animate the viewing angle of a camera via manual keyframes or use the auto-animation mode to let the plug-in do the smooth camera moves for them. The plug-in supports 4K video and high resolution images. A built-in alpha matte is included for the creation of transitions. CREATIVE AUDIO POST UPMIXES NATALIE MERCHANT FILM NEW YORK — Creative Audio Post (http://creativeaudiopost.com), here, is using Nugen Audio's Halo Upmix (www.nugenaudio.com) plug-in to upmix stereo audio soundtracks to 5.1 and 7.1. The studio recently used the audio tool on Paradise is There, a film project for recording artist Natalie Merchant. Jacques Boulanger, CEO, sound designer and re-recording mixer at Creative Audio Post, has worked with Merchant and filmmaker Jon Bowermaster in the past. "Mixing Paradise is There was challenging because it included source audio in both 5.1 surround and stereo," he explains. "We wanted to bring as many surround elements into the mix as possible — a job that required advanced upmixing capabilities. Halo Upmix offered a powerful solution. It offers capabilities that simply aren't found in other plug-ins, such as the ability to produce full stable surrounds with precise downmix matching." Boulanger took advantage of the center channel man- agement, which uses proprietary neural net- work-based dia- logue extraction to fine-tune the center in a sur- round mix. IZOTOPE PLUG-IN AFFECTS VOCALS CAMBRIDGE, MA — Izotope (www.izotope.com) has released VocalSynth, a new plug-in for music producers and sound designers who are looking to cre- ate distinctive vocals. VocalSynth brings together four advanced vocal engines — Vocoder, Polyvoice, Compuvox and Talkbox — alongside specialized vocal effects and pitch correction tools. The combination of tools can be blended to create new and unique results. The four advanced vocal engines each have their specialty. Vocoder is well suited for robotic vocals. Organic harmonies can be created with Polyvoice. The Compuvox can be used to create glitchy digital speech effects. And Talkbox is geared toward synthesized sounds. The plug-in can also be used for pitch correction, fixing off-key vocals in realtime while preserving the original timbre of the vocals for natural-sounding results. A selection of pre-sets give users quick access to classic sounds that are known and loved. Priced at $199, VocalSynth can be purchased via Izotope's online store or select retailers. ACON UPDATES AUDIO RESTORATION SUITE OSLO, NORWAY — Acon Digital (http://acondigital.com) has updated its audio Restoration Suite to Version 1.7, which consists of four tools that are designed for audio restoration work: DeNoise, DeHum, DeClick and DeClip, adding support for multi-channel formats such as 5.1 and 7.1 channel surround. Also new in the release is support for the VST3 plug-in standard. The de-clicker algorithm has been rewritten and improves both detection and reduction of clicks. There are individual controls for the re- duction of crackle and clicks, as well as for a new module that targets low frequency clicks. DeNoise has received several refinements as well, both in terms of audio quality and its user interface. The attack and release time controls are now more effective when it comes to minimizing musical noise artifacts. Also, there's the ability to store captured noise profiles in user presets. The spectrum analyzers in both DeNoise and DeHum are now interpolated and appear less jagged.
