1 4 | t h e c l e v e r r o o t WOMEN FROM ALL DIVISIONS OF THE FOOD INDUSTRY GATHERED in AApril at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles for the 2016 Women Chefs & Restaurateurs Conference. Over two days, female chefs, F&B specialists and culinarians from across the U.S. and Canada attended talks and panel discussion on topics as diverse as aeroponic gardening, social media training and de-mystifying sous vide. There was even an Iron Chef-style team throwdown led by celebrity coaches Mei Lin, Brooke Williamson and Nyesha Arrington, with the culinary creations judged by James Beard Award-wining chef Nancy Silverton; Atelier Crenn owner/chef Dominique Crenn; Top Chef finalist Antonia Lofaso; and co-founder of, Sophie Gayot. JENDE provided a pair of stunning custom leather hot pink knife rolls for the winners, while Chef Spoons gave out WCR logo spoons to all involved. WCR also partnered with Chef's Roll to present complimentary headshots by photographer Josue Castro, whose provocative and playful style had his subjects—from culinary students to industry heavyweights—posing in Chef Works' line of chef coats.
