Having lived in six major cit- ies across three continents, d'Orthez has built up an international repertoire encompassing all things vi- sual. After earning two degrees in film, she's worked as an editor, a 3D and VFX artist, art director and designer in South Africa's Cape Town and beyond, on high-profile commercial projects for some of the world's largest brands. She has also held staff positions with Cape Town's Ensemble Post and Chicago's Pipe Dreams Productions, Rip Media Group and InContext Solutions. AMBURR FARLS Cut+Run has named Amburr Farls executive producer of its LA office, where she will expand her sales and marketing role while continuing to lead the production team. Farls was most recently head of production at Cut+Run's LA, San Franciso and Austin studios. Prior to joining the company, Farls was at Arcade Edit, where she served as senior producer for three years and collaborated closely with Deanne Mehling, now EP for Cut+Run's San Francisco office. She also enjoyed successful producer tenures at Filmcore, Beast and Trailer Park. JAI SHUKLA Nomad, with offices in New York and Los Angeles, has added editor Jai Shukla to its roster, and wel- comes him to the company as a partner. Prior to joining Nomad, Shukla spent nine years at Beast NY, where he was one of the shop's busiest editors. His work has been showcased at Cannes and multi- ple awards shows, recently wining an AICE award. Shukla's client list includes the international brands IBM, Adidas, Mercedes and Corona, to name a few. DAN AKERS Culver City, CA-based Blur Studio has hired Dan Akers as visual effects supervisor. With nearly 15 years of experience in the VFX industry, Akers' re- cent photoreal work for the video game Destiny and Kia Motors was recognized with 2015 VES Award nominations, with his efforts for Destiny also taking home Best Visual Effects honors at AICP 2015. Akers comes to Blur from Digital Domain, where he most recently served as VFX and compositing supervi- sor, largely for commercial projects, overseeing spots for Nike, UFC, Lexus, Cadillac, Nissan, Kia, Assassin's Creed and the Destiny franchise. His recent VFX work has included films, from David Fincher's Gone Girl to this year's controversial Eye in the Sky. RICH LEE, RUSS LAMOUREUX, THE CRONENWETHS LA-based commercial production company Native Content has expanded its directorial roster, welcoming new talent Rich Lee, Russ Lamoureux, and sibling duo The Cronenweths. Lee has an extensive background within art departments and visual effects, and notably served as the previs supervisor on features that include the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films and I Am Legend. Since transitioning to directing, he has helmed acclaimed music videos, commercials and most re- cently made his TV debut with CBS's Limitless. Lamoureux got his start as a copywriter at some of the world's top ad agencies including Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, TBWA\Chiat Day, BBDO, and Deutsch. He began directing commercials in 2000 and won an Emmy for his PBS promos. The Cronenweths have collaborated as both directors and cinematogra- phers on commercials, music videos and films. As a duo they are responsible for award-winning projects for Gatorade, American Express and Audi. CHRIS PARKER, BILL DERONDE LA's The Sim Group has promoted two senior executives: Chris Parker to chief business development officer and Bill DeRonde to president of post produc- tion. The strategic moves will unify the company's North American operating units that service film and television productions with everything from cam- era rental and grip & lighting packages to a full range of post services. Parker, who joined Sim Group in 2009 through its acquisition of Bling Digital, a company he co-founded, will manage Sim Group's entire umbrella of services. DeRonde, founder and president of Chainsaw and five-time Emmy Award-winning editor, will oversee the five post production service providers in the group — Bling Digital, Chainsaw, Post Factory NY, Tattersall Sound & Picture and Pixel Underground — and increase their growth and diversification. MICHAEL PHILLIPS Hollywood's Hula Post has appointed Michael Phillips to the newly-created position of creative technology officer. A veteran technologist and creative profes- sional, Phillips will lead strategy, research and develop- ment, will develop new workflow solutions and other emerging technologies, and will also increase Hula's educational outreach to studios, producers and other industry professionals. Phillips, who has also worked as an editor and post supervisor, brings more than 30 years of experience in research and develop- ment, and in hands-on creative roles.
