By enabling Thunderbolt to 10GbE connectivity, ThunderLink provides an option for Mac OS X users seeking data storage for collab- orative video, including high-performance 4K and Ultra HD workflows. "The combination of Avid shared storage and ATTO's ThunderLink 10GbE Desklink devices lets customers easily incorporate Mac Pro workstations in high-performance editing environments," says Tom Kolniak, director of products at ATTO Technology. "As workflows evolve to embrace higher resolutions and frame rates, users will require this new level of solution performance." ThunderLink 10GbE Desklink devices act as an external Thunderbolt 2 to 10GbE adapter, connect- ing Thunderbolt technology-enabled desktop and mobile workstations to 10Gb/s Ethernet networks and storage devices. With a low-profile form factor and dual Thunderbolt 2 ports, they provide the most flexible and scalable connectivity for high-bandwidth content creation environments. ATTO's 10GbE Desklink devices additionally feature Advanced Data Streaming (ADS). CITIZEN PICTURES EMPLOYS QUANTUM'S XCELLIS WORKFLOW STORAGE SOLUTION SAN JOSE, CA — Denver-based post house Citizen Pictures ( deployed a new Quantum ( Xcellis workflow storage solution, powered by Quantum's StorNext platform, to help improve efficiency in meeting tight production deadlines. According to Quantum, the Xsan-compatible Xcellis system is a scalable, easy-to-manage solution that increases the flexibility and productivity possible within Citizen Pictures' collaborative media workflow. Citizen Pictures specializes in high-profile, talent-driv- en productions, largely for food-oriented networks and digital platforms (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Smoked and Guy & Hunter's European Vacation). Until it de- ployed the Quantum Xcellis storage solution, Citizen Pictures had relied on an aging Xserve infrastructure with limitations that the company recognized would eventually prevent it from maintaining the capacity and performance necessary to meet production deadlines. "The Xcellis solution specified by [Quantum partner] StorExcel not only enables us to take advantage of Quantum's powerful StorNext 5 platform but also allows us to start with the capacity and performance we need now, and then scale up the storage system econom- ically as those needs change," says Andrew Moraski, post production supervisor at Citizen Pictures. "With Xcellis, we brought the latest storage technology into our existing operations and very quickly began realizing efficiency gains." Xcellis is intended for collaborative media environ- ments and integrates the most important components of workflow storage into a single easy-to-manage, fully scalable hardware solution — which takes full advantage of the StorNext 5 platform to provide content produc- tion, distribution and archive. The Quantum solution also offers optimized high-speed Fibre Channel SAN connectivity, cost-effective LAN, SMB and NFS sharing options and IP connectivity. StorNext Connect, the full-featured management tool integrated into Xcellis, provides StorExcel and Citizen Pictures with an intuitive wizard interface that reduces the time and cost required to deploy the en- tire storage system.
