12 The Costume Designer Winter 2016 Dear Members and Friends, 2016 will be a very exciting year here at the Costume Designers Guild. By now you are probably aware that we have purchased a building to house our CDG offices and hold a member center. We are currently receiving bids for construction and hope to have plans approved and begin the rebuild by early March. If all goes well, we will inhabit our new home by the end of June. This is a moment we have dreamed of for years and I am thrilled to see it come to fruition. The initial design rendering is here in the magazine but the really exciting items will be in the interior of the building. The front portion will house our CDG offices and the back half will be dedicated to the members. A large meeting room for general membership meetings will also allow us the ability to hold more classes and education forums as well as CDG events such as award panels and symposiums. With the start of each year, I am proud to look back on the progress of the previous year. 2015 was a successful year with continued membership growth, improved education classes, more direct member participation, and of course, the purchase of our new home. As we begin this new year, we look forward to the February exhibit at FIDM featuring the work of Costume Designers from around the globe and we anticipate another successful awards gala in February. In May, we honor our retirees at the Legacy Luncheon, and June will bring our popular mixer with sister Local 705. Watch your emails for announcements about our extended education classes, symposiums, and events. Our Education Chair, Ivy Thaide, has a new expanded agenda for you this coming year covering topics from computer skills, health issues, negotiating skills, and new products for use in our field. We are dedicated to providing the most creative, best trained, and most educated force of workers available. I wish you all a prosperous and healthy New Year.
