Winter 2015 | wyoea.org 13 Utilizing a glorious fall morning and orange bags from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), the Hot Springs County Education Association cleaned up the Buffalo Creek Highway on Halloween. Organized by local president Dustin Olsen, nine Local members, their families and guests worked for three hours to clean the 1.7-mile stretch of highway. "Our Local prides itself in partnering with the community and the school district as a whole," stated Olsen. Demonstrating this fact was the inclusion of family members and other Hot Springs County School District #1 employees in the cleanup effort. Olsen shared that WYDOT will recognize HSCEA's efforts with signage along the roadway after their second cleanup, slated for this spring. Overall, 18 individuals joined the effort in what Olsen hopes will encourage participation from all groups of employees of the school district in upcoming cleanup efforts. At the beginning of October, Carbon County District One Teachers Education Association (CCDOTEA) in Rawlins held an event addressing teacher rights. Over 40 members attended the event where WEA Southwest UniServ Director Carol Jelaco presented information about rights as a new teacher and as a continuing contract teacher/educator. Members asked a lot of great questions, and plenty of good information was taken in by the attendees. WEA Membership Organizing Specialist Greg Herold assisted with the presentation as well.
