region that fit the character descriptions from the books. I then sat down with cos- tume designer Judianna Makovsky to break down every creature and figure out where each department would contribute to the look so to stay on time and within our budgets. For example, the creeps from the TV episode "Calling All Creeps!" might have been animatronics, but considering our constraints, the look was only doable if wardrobe covered actors' bodies while we created heads and hands. With Judianna's help, we narrowed the list down even further to 27 characters. This collabora- tion was crucial to any of this being possible, espe- cially with only six weeks to design, sculpt, fabricate and finish everything. Also, the short summer nights meant we only had a few hours of darkness to film the monster scenes, so each make-up application had to be completed within the 2½-hour maximum. This was all considered before design could begin. 41 Forrest Hill and Mae Tidman with Boggy
