60  /  the tasting panel  /  december 2015 D eborah Brenner's Women of the Vine Alliance continues to build momentum as wine industry professionals from coast to coast gather at mix and mingle network- ing events in California, Washington, Texas, New York and Florida. In October, Bay Area professionals were hosted by WOTV Advisory Board members Kristen R. Decker, President, Global Wine Company; Kristina S. Kelley, Director of Public Relations, E. & J. Gallo Winery; Tim Widnes, Wine Buyer, Whole Foods Market; Cynthia Lohr, Vice President of Marketing, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines; and THE TASTING PANEL's own Northern California Editor, Deborah Parker Wong at Ruth's Chris Steak House in San Francisco. WOTV partnered with Ruth's Chris in honor and celebration of Founder Ruth Fertel and the chain's 50th anniversary. "Step Up, Step Out" is the theme of the 2016 Women of the Vine Symposium being held April 4–6 at the Meritage Resort & Spa in Napa. The inaugural event drew more than 500 attend- ees this year and looks to be on track for an even larger audience in 2016. Decker announced the keynote speakers as Stephanie Gallo, Vice President of Marketing, E&J Gallo Winery; Maggie Henriquez, President & CEO, Krug; and Dr. Maki Mandela, founder of South Africa's House of Mandela Wines. In pursuit of its goals to empower and equip women worldwide to advance their careers in the alcohol bever- age industry, the symposium will offer panels led by Eric Asimov, Wine Critic for the New York Times; Susan Kostrzewa, Executive Editor, Wine Enthusiast magazine; and Josh Wand, founder and Motivator in Chief, Force Brands. Session topics will focus on issues particularly relevant to the challenges women face as they strive for work/life balance and address a broad range of business topics including effective negotiation, career strategies, family business succession and starting a women's initiative within an organization. No WOTV event is complete without wine, and guests enjoyed Bonterra's Organic Mendocino Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, Sanctuary Cabernet Sauvignon and Veuve Clicquot Champagne alongside a beautiful spread of appetizers.
