For Members 26 SAG-AFTRA | Fall 2015 | SAGAFTRA.org NEW OFFICE FOR MIAMI LOCAL MEMBERS From center, Miami Local Board member and National Board member Nancy Duerr, Miami Local President Steve Gladstone and Miami Local Executive Director Herta Suarez. S AG-AFTRA Miami Local members have a new, modern office to serve them — and it's more conveniently located. The space debuted at a grand opening on Sept. 9, featuring a ribbon- cutting, reception and office tours. The local chose the new location in Doral, Florida, after conducting a review to determine a site more central to the membership base. This move places the office directly in the median point of a density map of membership, which revealed a high concentration of members in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami Beach and Central Miami. SAG-AFTRA's new location is in a developing entertainment complex in the epicenter of Spanish-language media. The 4,000-square-foot space was completely transformed by building owner New Boston Shoma Park Square LLC at no cost to SAG-AFTRA. The features of the new office include a 16-seat glass boardroom with upgraded audiovisual capabilities, an actors center/member lounge for demo and on-camera audition recording, a private membership room and complimentary valet parking. F or nearly 75 years, the USO has served U.S. military members throughout their service, from the moment they join, through their deployments and as they transition back to their communities. For the sixth year, SAG-AFTRA is helping to ensure that the USO can continue to be by their side for years to come. Consider showing your support by making a holiday donation in honor of our service members and their families online at uso.org/sagaftra. Your donation of $25 can provide service members with the opportunity to call home and connect with their loved ones, supplies for game nights or a selection of movies to help them enjoy an evening off. A gift of $50 helps supply USO facilities with couches, video games or familiar snacks from home. A $100 donation can guarantee troops have access to technology like Skype or email, or provide cheer boxes for troops who remain stationed during the holiday season or comfort kits for long flights home. SAG-AFTRA members have a long history of supporting service members and the USO. With your help, we can continue to show our service members how much their sacrifices are appreciated. Visit uso.org/sagaftra to donate today and help a service member celebrate the holidays. HELP SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER FOR OUR HEROES MEMBERS RATIFY SOUND RECORDINGS CODE S AG-AFTRA members have overwhelmingly ratified the SAG-AFTRA National Code of Fair Practice for Sound Recordings, which includes a groundbreaking payment formula for online streaming and non-permanent digital downloads that encompasses revenue from these types of exploitations generated outside the United States. The vote was 98.83 percent in favor of the new contract, which runs from Jan. 1, 2015, to Dec. 31, 2017. The ratification vote follows the National Board's recommendation for members to vote yes on the new agreement with the recording industry, including Sony Music Entertainment, affiliates of Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Capitol Records LLC and Hollywood Records Inc. Negotiations with the labels began in fall 2014 and continued for several months in Los Angeles and New York. SAG-AFTRA's 15-member negotiating committee was chaired by Vice President, Recording Artists/Singers Dan Navarro and Jon Joyce. National Board member Janice Pendarvis and Nashville Local Board member Pat Alger served as vice chairs. Stefanie Taub, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and Randall Himes were co-lead negotiators for the union. The labels' lead negotiators were Bernard Plum and Michael Lebowich of Proskauer Rose LLP. The agreement covers session singers, royalty artists, announcers, actors, comedians, narrators and sound effects artists who work on recordings in all new and traditional media and all music formats, as well as audiobooks, comedy albums and cast albums. It covers work for the major record labels and sub-labels, as well as signatory independent record labels. USO YOSHMAR MANRIQUE
