THE MESSAGE 12  /  the tasting panel  /  november 2015 Brief Encounters Whether THE TASTING PANEL goes to the brand execs or the brands call us, there is an abundance of news to report, from the latest releases to behind-the-scenes experiences with some of the world's most influential importers, winemakers, distillers . . . well, you name it. We may not have enough pages in each issue to devote as much attention as we would like to each person whose path we cross, but please note that if it's in the publication, we deem it noteworthy. —Meridith May, Publisher & Editorial Director L os Angeles bartending team Alvarez & Co., founded earlier this year by mixologist Michael Alvarez, was on-hand to mix, shake and pour at the first annual Los Angeles Theater Festival (LATF) in Hollywood this fall. A graduate of the ABC Bartending School, Alvarez, along with his partners Max Sanchez and Samantha Mancine, are available for private events throughout the L.A. area and can create custom cocktails for any occasion. "I don't like deviating too far from the classics," says the dapper 22-year-old mixologist, who created the bourbon-driven, cherry-laced Hollywood Ruby as LATF's signature cocktail, named for the festival's venue, the Ruby Theatre on Hollywood's historic Theatre Row. —David Gadd alvarezandco.bartending@gmail.com The Hollywood Ruby ◗ 1½ oz.
