The model rounds out Sony's line of 4K professional cameras and, according to the company, fills an important niche between cameras like Sony's PXW-FS7 and the NEX-FS700. As a companion camera or on its own, the PXW-FS5 fits a range of applications, including documentary and indepen- dent filmmaking. "We are continually developing and growing the most complete, fully fea- tured line of cameras for every level of production, and the new FS5 model is the missing piece our customers need," says Francois Gauthier, director of digital imaging, Sony's Professional Solutions Americas. Sony ergonomically designed the camera so that it is versatile and well suited for handheld shooting. Its lightweight body offers excellent balance, and can even be mounted on a drone. A variety of shooting angles are possible with the one-touch rotatable grip. All key controls are easily accessible, allowing for shooting flexibility and quick switching between low- and high-angle shots. Users can attach the 3.5-inch type LCD panel on the handle or the compact camera body. Capable of 4K XAVC high-definition shooting, the camera's Super35 Exmor CMOS sensor incorporates 11.6 million pixels and 8.3 million effective pixels. The high sensitivity and large size of the sensor delivers background defocus, increased low-light sensitivity and low image noise. High-quality imagery is further ensured by high frame rate cache recording at 10-bit 4:2:2 Full HD and a high frame rate of up to 240fps can be captured in eight second bursts. Availability is planned for November at the suggested list pricing of $6,699 (PXW-FS5, body only) and $7,299 (PXW-FS5K, with lens). BITS & PIECES 'THE EXQUISITE CORPSE PROJECT' BRINGS TOGETHER GLOBAL ARTISTS LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK — Michael Waldron, TV Land's VP creative direc- tor, art and design, directed artists from around the world this past summer for his second installment of The Exquisite Corpse Project. Commissioned in conjunction with the 2015 Motion Conference (www.motionconference.com) in Santa Fe, the collaborative multimedia film debuted at the conference over the summer before later playing online as a Vimeo Staff Pick. Inspired by the project's classic parlor game namesake, Waldron tapped 19 different artists and companies to create :03 to :05 original pieces around the theme of "balance." Much like the "draw-fold-and-pass" game, the snip- pets were concealed from the other contributors (except those that came just before and after), and then seamlessly edited together to reveal the final 2:20 piece. "We had such an amazing mix of diverse talent who each brought something unique to the table," says Waldron. "Some interpreted the theme literally, while others more abstractly. That's the fun of it." Waldron, a seven-time speaker at the Motion Conference, originally initiated the first "Exquisite Corpse" with his own creative team at TV Land to supplement his presentation at last year's conference. This year, he was excited to open participation to his eclectic peers and colleagues across the industry. Beyond a host of stateside talent and studios, the film is represent- ed by an international field of artists from Iceland to Korea to South Africa. Waldron shortlists each contributor in the category of "creative excel- lence" while citing a few contributions for their technical savvy and un- conventional approach: LA-based Roger's "mad-Cirque du Soleil-esque" interpretation, featuring a model standing on water; and Loyalkaspar, which enlisted rising talent Kaz Ishii to co-direct their creation: a man's deep-forest quest for internal peace, featuring an animated paper airplane that trans- forms his surroundings. Waldron also cited contributions from UVPhactory, Transistor Studios, and artist Justin Harder. 800-323-2325 Check us our at www.videoguys.com Media Composer opens your possibilities even further, simplifying and accelerating file-based workflows and real-time production everywhere.
