Back To School 2015 | WEAnews 10 At the beginning of each school year, every school district hires new teachers and staff. Those teachers attend new teacher meetings, where they are trying to gain knowledge about the district in which they are going to teach. We all know that when these meetings are being held, this is one of the few occasions when teachers have an entire hour for lunch and can relax a bit before their next meeting. Well, here in Glenrock there aren't many places to choose from for that lunch. Glenrock Education Association wanted to do something special to welcome these new teachers to our district. We served them donuts on the morning of their first meeting (Monday) to get them excited for Tuesday. We also handed out a few materials for them to briefly look at so they could have questions ready for the next day. On Tuesday, we took them Qdoba for lunch and gave them information about GEA and WEA. On that day I signed up 3 members. Every year Glenrock has a back-to-school luncheon for all staff, and GEA has a table in the back of the room to get our returning members' initials on the membership rosters; however, this year we also held a couple of drawings. We wanted to support local new business, so we got some gift cards from our new coffee shop. We drew one name for new members and one name for returning members. On this day I signed 2 more members. It was great to get GEA's name out there in a positive way and to be able to answer questions that people had. Central Region by Heather (Kreiling) Rutz Northwest by Jacob Strenger, As we kick off the 2015-16 school year, our regions are really focusing on ways to increase engagement of veteran members as well as focus on recruiting and retaining new members, with the development of their membership plans. I hope you all take a chance to look at what your region is doing locally, and also glean from other regions different ideas to increase membership and engage members in different ways. From BEWM Bazaars, to bbqs, and bingo nights, WEA locals are finding ways to start conversations with members and non- members alike. As the WEA Staff, we are here to assist locals in any way to find ways to engage our members, and make our association a viable resource for professional development and an association who looks after the education of Wyoming students.
