12 Fall 2015 | AEA Advocate AROuNd AEA AROuNd AEA AROuNd AEA AROuNd AEA AROuNd AEA With recent retirements, AEA has welcomed several new staff members: Paula Arnquist, stephanie King, Chris Maza, stacey Morley, and Roxanne Rash. Paula Arnquist joined AEA's southern Region offi ce as an Organizational Consultant last year. she previously worked with UNITE/HERE and has over 15 years organizing experience with the AFL-CIO and the Arizona Roofers Local #135. stephanie King joined AEA as the Advocacy Department Associate this past August. she worked with the Arizona Federal Public Defender unit as a Legal Assistant and brings over 13 years experience to our organization. Chris Maza has been a long-time leader and member of the AEA at the local, state, and national levels and in January, he joined AEA staff as the new Advocacy and Bargaining Organizational Consultant. Previously he served as President of the Paradise Valley Education Association and taught high school French for more than 20 years. Chris also served as a board member on the AEA governing board and the Washington Elementary school District school board. stacey Morley was hired as AEA's Government Relations Organizational Consultant in August, taking on the lobbying duties of Jennifer Loredo, who was promoted to AEA Field staff Manager. Previously, stacey worked as the Director of Policy Development and Government Relations with the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), where she served as the superintendent's chief policy advisor, liaised with both state and federal elected offi cials, and represented the superintendent on various Boards and Task Forces. Prior to joining ADE, stacey staffed the senate Education, Accountability, and Reform Committee. stacey also oversaw the Executive budget for education as part of Governor Napolitano's Offi ce of strategic Planning and Budgeting. In addition, she also worked in Constituent services for the Legislature's Tucson offi ce and was among the initial staff of the school Facilities Board after its establishment by the students FIRsT legislation. Roxanne Rash joined AEA in January as our new Graphic Designer. Roxanne comes to our organization with more than 20 years of experience in producing design for print and media. she previously worked with the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives in their Online systems and Graphic Design Department. Talk Radio with AEA New Faces at AEA This past summer, AEA President Andrew F. Morrill and AEA Vice President Joe Thomas, hosted a radio show to discuss education issues with invited guests. Arizona Teacher of the Year and Mesa Education Association member John-david bowman was the guest on the fi rst show and talked about representing the teaching profession at the Arizona Legislature and the importance of AEA membership in order to advocate on behalf of good public education policy. The four shows aired on KFNX 1100AM in August and september and was part of an advertising grant with the National Education Association.
