Bits & Pieces Click 3X partners with CBS Sports for US Open N EW YORK — CBS Sports called on Click 3X (www.click3x.com), here, to create a new graphics package for its coverage of the 2011 US Open, which took place in Flushing, New York, in late August/early September. The studio was tasked with revamping and rebooting the entire package of ele- ments that the network had been using for the past five years. The Click 3X team had to retrofit about 100 graphic elements into the existing framework. The team also shot back-plates, which were later compos- ited with graphic elements. "It's a pretty comprehensive package," notes pro- ducer Jason Lowther, "with front-end player profiles, logo transitions, billboards and sponsor elements — the crown jewel being the open, which aired at the start of each day's coverage. Post Magazine (09,28,2011).pdf 1 9/28/2011 10:54:06 AM "We tried to capture the epic feeling that makes this event so special: the spec- tacle and sheer size of the event, the coming together of the international partici- pants and the New York setting and crowds." Elements were created in a modular fashion. "The idea was to hit the main assets hard and design them fast. Then, we could fill in the rest of the package based on that," says Click 3X art director/designer Miguel Hernandez. "On a job like this, you have to approach it smartly so you're not rebuilding everything from scratch." Click 3X relied on the Adobe Creative Suite, along with Maxon Cinema 4D to create a toolkit that CBS Sports could then use in different scenarios. In related news, Click 3X has signed senior designer/art director Craig Hubbard to its team. He's worked on jobs for VH1, MTV, Comedy Central and Bravo.
