Movers & Shakers Two Weeks to Go: How to Quit Your Job Successfully Putting in your "two weeks" is often times one of the most liberating feelings you can have as a (soon-to-be former) employee—so sit back and savor it! However, just because you've already officially resigned doesn't mean you're out of the woods yet . . . How you handle the next two weeks will often determine whether you're the type to build bridges or burn them. Here's a quick reminder of things to check off as you make your exit: PLAN YOUR COVERAGE In anticipation of leaving your position, you must prepare your responsibilities and coverage for your day-to-day activity. Often, managers may not know all of the intricate responsibilities their employees have, and it is your responsibility not to leave them high and dry! Write everything down and suggest who can manage the activities. DO AN EXIT INTERVIEW Sometimes companies do not schedule an exit interview, but you should request one! This is a great time to have a constructive, honest conversation with your managers and a great way to work out any issues for the next person taking your place! SHARE YOUR NEWS Do your best to tell everyone at once and in person so there is no gossip. Keep it honest and positive—change can be a good thing for your career and that's okay! Also, don't forget to let your outside contacts know so that they're not surprised when they see your future auto-reply email. CAREER CORNER
