Some associations have bargained greater rights than afforded by state law, and it is important to know the system that applies to you. What documents must you bring to pre and post conferences? Make it easy to have a good evaluation! You are doing great work, so show it. • Be organized in your presentation to your students and administrators. • Have your assessment data organized for each unit as requested by your administration. That way for each unit/ lesson/etc., you can easily show what your students have learned. • If your evaluator is focused on a few specific elements, be sure to draw attention to the element in your instruction and lesson plan. • If you don't understand why you received a certain score or feedback, and then ask for clarification! Ask for examples that would constitute the rating you want in that area. • As a teacher, follow the reasonable instructions of your administration, even if you do not agree. Know how to respond to your evaluation feedback If you are happy with your scores, be sure to tell your evaluator. If you are not happy with your scores, then do the following: • Determine the consequence of your scores because it may not make sense to protest a determination that you are highly effective. If you want to point out inaccuracies, be sure to start with a statement that you are not protesting the ultimate finding/ classification. • If your observation or evaluation negatively impacts your compensation or employment status, then you should : – Write a concise, well-edited response to the evaluation that points to the inaccuracies. – Determine if an appeal or grievance is possible. Typically, they are only possible when there are procedural violations. – Contact as soon as possible your local association leaders or aeahelpdesk.org for assistance with the appeal or response. • Submit a concise well-edited response that addresses the inaccuracies. Appeal evaluation data that impacts compensation • Know your deadlines • Quickly gather your supporting evidence • Contact your local leaders or www. aeahelpdesk.org for assistance If placed on an improvement plan, please do the following: • Review the plan with the administration so you know what exactly you must do to successfully complete the plan. Confirm in writing the expectations of administration. • Be sure to calendar all deadlines and meetings. • For each area that needs improvement, identify the standard for effective instruction, then, in an organized binder or folder, collect the weekly evidence of effective instruction, including your lesson plans, your meetings with administration, coaches etc. • Contact your Association leaders or www. aeahelpdesk.org.
