Schary will be based in Dallas and will focus on cultivating new and existing relationships. He comes to Radium/Reel FX having worked as an EP at 3008 Editorial and Willow Street Editorial, both in Dallas. NICE SHOES (www.niceshoes.com) in NYC purchased a Scan- ity high-dynamic range, 2K/4K electronically pin-registered scanner from Digital Film Technology.The studio has been using the com- pany's equipment since 2000. Offline edit house CUT + RUN (www.cutandrun.tv), which has locations in London, New York and LA, has opened a new facility in Hong Kong. Most of the business for the new studio is coming from Shanghai and Beijing, though it's also supporting work from Manila and India.The new facility has a number of resident British editors. Ten-year old production company GRAND LARGE Powering High-Performance Audio & Video Workflows (www.grandlargeinc.com) has taken the first step to opening a West Coast office in LA with the appointment of Jonathan Miller as EP. Grand Large president/EP Steven Horton will continue to serve as CEO and head up the company's New York and Paris offices. Miller was president of Image Point Productions and Harmony Pic- tures in the 1980s and 1990s. He was also managing director of Mutiny, the in-house production service company of TBWA/Chiat/Day. Recently, he returned from India where he was head of studio operations for Reliance MediaWorks in Mumbai. INTELLIGENT ASSISTANCE in Burbank didn't wait for the Workflow/XML SDK for Apple's Final Cut Pro X to be released. The company introduced Event Manager X, which is designed to work with the new version of Final Cut Pro X, managing the visibil- ity and tracking of Events and Projects. Event Manager X is available via www.AssistedEditing.com/EventManagerX, and costs $4.99. Artists from CSS STUDIOS' (www.css-studios.com) Todd-AO and Sound One facilities earned five Emmy nominations for their sound work.The studios were recognized for episodes of CSI: NY, Nikita, Mad Men, Mildred Pierce and Family Guy. In other Emmy news, NYC's PHOSPHENE (www.phosphenefx. com) had its visual effects work for the five-part HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce recognized with an Emmy nomination.The nomina- tion comes in the "Outstanding Special Visual Effects For a Mini-Se- ries, Movie or a Special — 2011" category. Phosphene's work on the series included elaborate set extensions and much smaller de- tail work.The studio used Nuke, 3DS Max and After Effects CS5 to handle the work, along with PCs running Windows 7. Production and post facility CITY 3D (www.city3d.com.mx) in Mexico City has upgraded its Quantel Pablo system to 4K and stereo 3D, making it one of the first facilities in the area to offer 2K S3D ca- pabilities.The upgrade is part of City 3D's push to offer high-quality stereo production and post services for movies, corporate projects and large events.The studio is currently posting an S3D trailer for a documentary about the Mexican archaeological site,Tajin. MANHATTAN EDIT WORKSHOP (mewshop.com) partnered with Blackmagic to host a free DaVinci Resolve for Mac presenta- tion. Hosted by colorist/editor Patrick Inhofer of Fini, the demo took attendees through set-up and integration tips for the color corrector. Inhofer also provided how-to demos and detailed key Resolve features.
