THE AMERICAN CINEMA EDITOR'S (ACE) EDITFEST NY will kick off on Friday, June 10 at the Director's Guild of America Theater in New York City.ACE EditFest NY is co-produced by Manhattan Edit Workshop (www.mewshop.com) and presents the editing and film- making community with two full days of discussions with some of the industry's most talented and well-respected film and television edi- tors.The event will include meet and greets, panels, discussions and a cocktail party.Ticket prices range from $149 to $249. During the NAB show, FRAUNHOFER’S Moving Picture Tech- nologies department (www.iis.fraunhofer.de/en/bf/bv/dc/dcine), made available its Curator Archive.The Curator Archive Suite is a long-term archive solution that provides tools to create both a Master Archive Package (MAP) and an Intermediate Access Package (IAP).The soft- ware creates MAP files with lossless coding. For IAP files, it creates an MXF-Container in 2K and 4K horizontal resolutions. IAP is an exten- sion of a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) and can be used for fast ac- cess and further distribution. DCPs can be directly extracted from the IAP without re-coding. They also demo’d the EasyDCP Creator and EasyDCP Player at the show.This bundled package allows post pros to master complete DCPs and easily playback in realtime during the post process on off- the-shelf hardware. MELROSEMAC (www.melrosemac.com) has grown its Melrose Video Professionals (MVP) division with the addition of two industry veterans. Gary Carter was brought on to expand MVP’s 3D work- flow expertise. He is deeply involved in the Hollywood production community and has worked with Panasonic, Hitachi, For-A and Studio Exchange. Kevin Sanders will widen MVP’s installation and design bandwidth. He’s been in the entertainment industry for over 40 years and has spent time at Ascent Media,Technicolor, 4MC, Digital Image, Video Research Corporation, Encore Video, Compact Video,Varitel Video and World Communications. NTROPIC (www.ntropic.com), with facilities in LA and San Fran- cisco, has added senior Inferno artist MB Emigh to its creative team. Emigh brings experience as a VFX supervisor/compositor, having worked at such companies as Radium,Troika and Hydraulx. She also owned her own design/visual effects studio. Emigh is an expert on Flame and Inferno. She recently contributed to a music video for Ri- hanna, a television show for Discovery TV, and commercials for Bank of New York,Vizeo, Skechers and Frito Lay. MPC‘s (www.moving-picture.com) former head of production/ad- vertising, Andrew Bell, is now serving as managing director of the LA studio.The position was previously held by Mark Tobin. Bell came to MPC in 1999, and has been a senior producer since 2002. In his new role, he will manage the VFX team, as well as continue to expand the studio’s West Coast business. THE VISUAL EFFECTS SOCIETY (www.visualeffectssociety. com) has formed a section in New York that includes members from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.The VES represents approxi- mately 2,500 visual effects artists and practitioners worldwide.The New York section joins existing VES sections in Australia, New Zealand, London, San Francisco and Vancouver. POSTWORKS,NEW YORK has named Beth Simon executive vice president/managing director.
